Grenada United Labor Party
The Grenada United Labor Party is a political party in Grenada, founded by former prime minister Sir Eric Gairy.
The GULP won two seats out of 15 in the House of Representatives in the June 1995 general election.[1][2] It won no seats in the January 1999 general election, but Michael Baptiste of the ruling New National Party defected to the GULP in June 2000, giving the party one seat in the House of Representatives.[1]
Gloria Payne Banfield was elected as GULP leader in February 2003, becoming Grenada's first female party leader. In the general election held on November 27 2003, the party won 3.2% of the popular vote and no seats.[1] For the July 2008 election, it formed a coalition with the People's Labour Movement; the United Labour Platform fielded 11 candidates for the 15 seats[3], netting .84% of the vote and no victories.
